History of Hammocks

Hammocks were invented more than 800 years ago in central America, south America and the Caribbean. Most houses were open air huts and inside people slept off the ground in hammocks to make them safe from snakes and other dangerous creatures.

The name hammock comes from the word sounding like ‘Amorcka’ which is a throwing fishing net that the Taíno people of the Caribbean slept on on long fishing trips.
